Macron is available to work with “allies and friends” like Liz Truss

French President Emmanuel Macron today assured that France is “available to work among allies and friends” with the new British Prime Minister, Liz Truss.

“I say welcome to Liz Truss. “I express to her all the congratulations of France and we are available to work among allies and friends,” the French head of state said at a press conference.

Asked two weeks ago whether Emmanuel Macron was “friend or foe” at a Conservative party meeting, Truss then refused to answer. The then head of British diplomacy replied, “The jury is still deliberating

Emmanuel Macron responded the next day, saying that the UK was “a friendly, strong and allied nation, regardless of its leaders, and sometimes in spite of and beyond its leaders or the small mistakes they may make in stage remarks.”

It is never good to lose your way in life. If I am asked the question (…), whoever comes to take the leadership, I don’t wonder for a second. “The UK is a friend of France,” Macron insisted.

Today, Macron highlighted the “energy cooperation” between the two countries, particularly in nuclear matters, with the construction by the state-owned EDF company of two reactors at Hinkley Point.

In general, “we have the same values, we have a history of friendship, we are facing common challenges,” Macron said, citing in particular the defence “of the values of democracy, alongside Ukraine” or “the battle of climate change.”

The head of state stressed that “this is the real agenda, the rest is the froth of days.”
