Elon Musk gives ultimatum to Tesla and SpaceX employees

Musk charges minimum of 40 hours a week in office; CEO says those who disagree can go to another company and “pretend to work”.

Elon Musk is back in the headlines, and this time, it’s not because of the Twitter purchase imbroglio. The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX has sent an email to employees saying that remote working is no longer acceptable.

On Twitter, his preferred social network, Musk did not deny the information, saying only that «they must pretend to work somewhere else». Another requirement is that the work be done in the Tesla office related to their duties, not in a distant arm of the company.

In a second message, Musk recounts that he himself almost lived in Tesla’s factory, and that this is the reason the company has survived. Musk feels that there may be exceptions, but that they need to be assessed on an individual basis.

Remote work gained ground in the pandemic

Elon Musk’s Tesla adopted remote working at the beginning of the pandemic, for all functions where it was possible. It postponed the return, started to require masks in the office and released remote work again.
