Google and Apple payment services stopped working in Russia

This situation has already led to some embarrassment among the Russian population, which has been prevented from using the two services to make payments in the metro system of the capital Moscow. As you can see from the Twitter post below, there were even a series of long lines at the entrance to the underground transport system.

As reported by The Verge, the Central Bank of Russia confirms that this situation results from international sanctions imposed on the country’s largest banking institutions – including VTB Group, Sovcombank, Novikombank, Promsvyazbank and Otkritie FC Bank.

The cards of these banking institutions will then no longer be able to be used outside Russia, with the payment services of Google and Apple also being affected for the customers of these banks.
