Messi will receive part of his $80 million salary in cryptocurrencies
Paris Saint-Germain announced this Thursday (12) that part of the salary of $80 million of the player Lionel Messi includes fan tokens of the club, PSG.
According to a press release, the player has already received a large number of digital assets. The exact quantity received was not informed.
“The inclusion of PSG fan tokens in the player’s welcome pack instantly connects him to millions of Paris Saint-Germain fans around the world,” wrote the French club.
A fan token is a non-fungible digital asset that gives fans the ability to interact with teams and athletes.
In the case of PSG, developed by the Socio.com platform, it allows fans to have contact with players, choose the goal of the season and write messages.
Last week, rumors about Messi’s departure from Barcelona – his former team – and his move to Paris Saint-Germain sent the PSG digital asset soaring 100% in just a few days, reaching as much as $58.
Since Monday (9), however, the fan token has devalued 32% and returned part of the earnings, being quoted at $39.98 on Thursday.
Today, the market capitalization of cryptocurrency – current price versus current offer – is $113 million, according to CoinMarketCap.
The player’s club change also affected Barcelona’s fan token, the FC Barcelona Fan Token (BAR). From Thursday (5), the day Messi announced his departure from the club, until today, the fan token has valued 14%, going from US$ 21 to $24.
