With several competitors, Clubhouse plummets 66% in number of downloads
Clubhouse attracted the spotlight to you earlier this year with its audio rooms. But the platform has also started to win several competitors, with the arrival of similar features on Facebook, Discord and other social networks. As a result, the number of downloads of the app fell 66% in April, according to Sensor Tower.
The consultancy’s figures were revealed by Business Insider on Monday (3). In April, the application, which is only available for iOS, but is already being tested a beta version for Android, had 922 thousand downloads. The figure is 66% lower than in March, when the service accumulated a figure of 2.7 million installations. In February, the app was downloaded 9.6 million times.
The results show a drop in the app installations, although the retention among users is strong, according to Sensor Tower. Created in March 2020, the social network shot in February after Tesla CEO Elon Musk participated in an audio room. Then, celebrities from all over the world started using the new platform.
With the success, other companies started to chase. Telegram expanded voice chats while Discord introduced Stage Channels. In April, Facebook announced its solution to go head-to-head with the Clubhouse. Instagram Live also received an option to turn off the video to make it more competitive.
This Monday (3), Twitter Spaces became accessible to all users. Some alternatives to the platform are also in the oven, as is the case with the voice rooms planned to reach LinkedIn and Spotify. Even the CEO of Slack announced resources for audio chat to the corporate messenger.
