Facebook will announce on Wednesday whether Trump will remain blocked or not
Facebook moderating committee (Oversight Board), an independent and international panel created by the social network, will announce on Wednesday whether former US President Donald J. Trump will be able to recover his account on their platforms, from where he was banned for spreading misinformation among his millions of followers.
The decision is long awaited because it can set a precedent in the issue of the management of political discourse by private companies that manage social networks, especially if it includes disinformation by government leaders, as The New York Times writes.
Mark Zuckerberg had started by announcing, in October 2019, that political discourse would not be subject to verification, as he understood that all ideas should have space in public opinion, even if they were lies.
On January 7, the day after the Capitol insurrection, they changed they mind and the company even ended up blocking Trump, claiming that the president’s statements in previous days had incited violence and threatened a peaceful transition of power.
This news are coming months after Trump team announced that Trump is building a new social network and will be back in few months.
