Tesla factories are ‘gigantic money furnaces’, says Musk
Tesla CEO Elon Musk gave an interview to the Tesla Owners Silicon Valley YouTube channel where he hinted that the shortage of electronic components is costing the company many billions of dollars.
“Right now, both the Austin [US] and Berlin [Germany] factories are giant money furnaces,” Musk said. “It’s like a giant roar, which is the sound of money being burned.”
The businessman also hinted that, in the case of the factory in Texas, these facilities were able to produce only a “small” number of vehicles.
“Our constraints are much more in raw materials and being able to scale production. As anyone who has tried to order a Tesla knows, demand for our cars is extremely high and the waiting list is long. This is unintentional and we are increasing production capacity as quickly as humanly possible,” Musk explained.
