Metaverse? “It’s an old idea that never worked”, says Evernote former CEO
Evernote formmer leader and current CEO of video conferencing company Mmhmm Phil Libin spoke to Business Insider about his recent experience with Facebook’s (meta) first metaverse product. However, it seems that Liblin was not convinced.
“I had a very, very strong feeling that it would suck, but I went into it with as much hope as possible that I would be pleasantly surprised,” Liblin said, saying that he tried out Horizon Workrooms with VR glasses together with colleagues and that they ended up be disillusioned.
“It was only tolerable for a few minutes.”
Liblin notes that, unlike meetings held through platforms such as Zoom, in Horizon Workrooms it is not possible to perform real tasks (like drinking a coffee) because all the participants have Virtual Reality glasses on their heads.
The experience did not favor Liblin’s idea of the metaverse, a concept he had previously criticized and which remains unconvinced.
“It’s an old idea. It’s not creative, it’s been tried many, many times over the last four decades and it never worked,” noted Liblin.
