N-Plus: Netflix studies creating a ‘social network’ with podcasts and playlists
Netflix has apparently been working on an online space with new tools and elements of social networks. At least that’s what a recent survey sent to some North American subscribers indicates.
The survey asks questions about a wide range of resources and content, such as podcasts, personalized playlists and more. Apparently, the project under development will be called “N-Plus”.
“N-Plus is a future online space where you can learn more about the Netflix attractions you love and anything related to them,” reveals the description of the project.
The streaming service has been producing backstage interviews, podcasts and other supporting content for a long time to promote original attractions. These materials are currently available on other platforms such as YouTube and Instagram.
So recent research may indicate that Netflix is doubling its promotional efforts. Thus, one option would be to add social features to the platform itself to keep users always connected to a single space.
Sought by Protocol, a spokesman for the company said that the survey is part of regular actions to analyze public opinion on ideas that are being explored. However, he could not reveal more information on the matter.
The survey also mentions other features that may appear on the N-Plus. For example, the user may be able to create a personalized list with favorite shows and thus publish it online or share it with friends on the platform.
The service is also considering creating an area for reviews of shows available in the catalog, which will use an algorithm to indicate other users with similar tastes.
For now, there is no prediction about when these features will arrive on Netflix – or whether it will launch N-Plus. It is worth mentioning that the platform usually tests several tools and products, but not all are made available to the public.
