TikTok is “data collection service disguised as a social network”
England’s former commissioner for child protection, Anne Longfield, is legally accusing TikTok of having “excessive” practices in collecting personal data from children.

“TikTok is a hugely popular social media platform that has helped children keep in touch with their friends during an incredibly difficult year. However, behind the fun songs, dance challenges and lip-sync trends lies something far more sinister.”
BBC says that the former commissioner believes that TikTok is a “data collection service disguised as a social network”.
She added that those parents have a “right to know” what private information is being collected via TikTok’s “shadowy data collection practices”.
This is not the first time that TikTok has been criticized for the way it collects data from minor users, having been fined in both the US and South Korea for the same reason.
