Elon Musk: You can now buy a Tesla with bitcoin – starting today
Tesla CEO and the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, announced on Wednesday (24) that it is now possible to buy vehicles from the electric car maker in the United States with bitcoin. The automaker revealed last month that it had purchased $1.5 billion in bitcoin and would soon begin accepting the world’s most popular cryptocurrency as a form of payment.
“You can now buy a Tesla with Bitcoin,” tweeted Musk.

A support page on the company’s website explains how customers can pay for a company car using the cryptocurrency. The company’s electric vehicles typically cost between $38,000 and $124,000 before tax. People outside the U.S. will be able to buy a Tesla with bitcoin “later this year,” said Musk, without specifying which countries.

The announcement of the electric car manufacturer has important meanings, according to experts. Starting with the symbolism: the acquisition increases the credibility of the pioneer among cryptocurrencies and takes them up steps in the popular imagination.
