Russia and China want to create a space station on the Moon

Russia and China have signed an agreement for the joint development of a research station on the Moon, the Russian space agency Roscosmos said according to AFP.

“Roscosmos has completed domestic procedures to harmonize the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the People’s Republic of China in cooperation to create the International Lunar Investigative Station”, read the statement made by Roscosmos in February .

Now it will be time for the governments of the two countries to create a timetable for the objectives, developing and making the necessary plans for the implementation of the project in the coming years.

It is known that this lunar station would be located at the south pole of the Moon and that it would have the objective of “supporting, in the long term, scientific exploration and large-scale technical experiments and the development and use of lunar resources”. Although the Memorandum concerns only Russia and China at the moment, the door is open to the participation of other nations.
