Amazon is developing a new digital currency
Amazon is working on a new project to develop its own digital currency. According to recent posts on Amazon Jobs, a platform that advertises job openings, software development engineers and managers are being hired to develop a new payments product.
According to the announcements, Amazon is developing a new project to be launched initially in Mexico. “This product will allow customers to convert their money into digital currency … being able to enjoy online services, including purchases of goods and / or services like Prime Video”, says one of the posts.
The sector responsible for the project is Amazon’s Digital and Emerging Payments Division. “We are looking for a leader to help us launch a new payment product with Mexico as our initial launch country,” reveals one of the job ads.
Amazon is not the only company interested in creating or buying digital currencies. The most direct example is Facebook and the Diem Association, which together develop the cryptocurrency called Diem, formerly known as Libra.
